All motorized road vehicles are tagged with a registration or license number. In India The district-level Regional Transport Office (RTO) of respective states issues the license plate (commonly known as number plates) number — the main authority on road matters. The license plates are placed in the front and back of the vehicle. By law, all plates are required to be in modern Hindu-Arabic numerals with Roman alphabets.
Other guidelines include having the plate lit up at night and the restriction of the fonts that could be used. They should be in the format, since accident victims or the drivers and vehicles involved in accident are identified only with the aid of number plates.
Fancy and small font number plates should be avoided. There are two reasons behind this: One, the negligent drivers responsible for the accident can vanish from the accident spot and easily escape due to number plates that cannot be noticed, remembered, or recalled. Secondly, the witness at the accident spot also cannot point out the vehicles. This results in the difficulty in tracing hit and run vehicles and errant drivers.
When drivers committing faults are not penalized or punished they would continue to commit more offences and disrespect rules and regulations. |
