At all traffic intersection, it is customarily for vehicles to move based on green lights and to stop based on red lights.
When vehicles crosses halt at the stop line, and continue the drive after green light; it is quite possible that the traffic on the stretch of the road where these vehicles move into may be busy, full or over packed with vehicles. At such instances, even though the vehicles cross the stop line, they will not be able to drive into the other part of the road in which they are proceeding. This will force the vehicles to queue up, resulting in blocking the intersection area.
If such a thing happens and signal change for vehicles moving in other direction, a traffic jam would occur because of vehicles already queuing in the intersection areas. This will result in other vehicles being holed up.
In cities like Dubai, it is possible to note that at intersection, even though there may be green light, vehicles cannot cross the stop line, unless the driver is able to locate free driving space on the road he prefers to drive into. This kind of practice is worthy of appreciation.
Firstly such a regulation prevents the clogging of the intersection space. Secondly, traffic moving in one direction will not get affected by traffic jam in the roads leading to different directions.
When there is no regulation the condition at these points is pell-mell, as vehicles vie with each other for space resulting in choking the traffic movement and even accidents |
