Railway station is another busy area. Normally residents from suburbs, who are employed in city, travel by innumerable trains from different locations and direction to the city.

It is common to find two or three huge railway terminals in major cities. There may be separate terminals for trains operating to different directions. These terminals will receive both outstation and suburban trains. Thousands of travelers from outside the city reach the city in the morning and almost an equal number of people get back from the city. The same thing is true of commuters who travel to city for employment back and get home in the evening.

The migrant travelers also add to the number of commuters. All these terminals entail several infrastructure facilities. Personal associated with operation and maintenance of these facilities needs to travel in and out. There is also need of parking and pick up of vehicles and commuters. There is also need for enabling connectivity for commuter who needs to opt for intermodal transports.

When commuters leave the railway terminal, they also need to transfer to other terminal to take connective train, buses or other subsidiaries. There also shops, restaurants and public conveniences, which need to maintained and operated. Generally, a spate of trains arrives at the terminals in the morning, in quick succession carrying thousands of peoples. The commuter are in the hurry to there offices or homes. In addition, the porters and auto drivers vie with each other to getting customers.

Late in the evening hundreds of passengers, reach railway terminals to take train to different places. In railway terminals, there is also the activity of bookings parcels and goods for outstations. These goods may be sent through passenger and goods train. These entail the movement of cargo from and to, to the wagons.

We also have the security personals and staffs of railway who have to carry on with their duties. Just as in bus terminals, railway terminals also passengers’ comprises of many families, children, old and young. There is lot of hustle and bustle at the terminals. All these lead to heavy traffic flow around station area especially during morning and evening hours. This is an every day affair as train travel is the backbone of transportation in many countries.

The number of train travelers usually increase during summer holidays at schools and colleges, festivals, conventions and so on. The activities in railway terminals are just as hectic in the bus terminals or airport and continuous. There is no brake in the activities. In case of breakdown in any activity or operation, it only leads to more activities that are hectic. As travel is essential and unavoidable, the authorities need to be on their toes to keep the activities uninterrupted. The traffic under such conditions in these is intense and mind blogging.

Commuters are impatient, passengers are impatient, taxi drivers impatient and there is always an urgency to catch the train or for not missing a connecting train or flight. So as the cities growing exponentially with visitors, migrants and inhabitants the commuters and passengers magnify in number and the infrastructure tend to bust at the seems. The authorities have their handful in ensuring order and smooth flow of traffic at these locations.
