Commuters in any particular city pose a big challenge for authorities. Commuters travel by buses and trains from suburbs to attend to their work or business. There are commuters who travel within city to work. These people often have the need to take a bus after alighting from a train and take a train after alighting from bus or vice-versa as the situation may warrant. In general, there are movements of people to airports, to bus and train stations, to offices, to business centers, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, colleges and so on.
As the trains and buses run full there is constant crowd of commuters moving out and in at these places. During peak hours, commuters who wait for bus and subsidiaries also crowd the bus terminals and train terminals. At several point in city there are areas when all commuters don’t get adequate number of buses for their travel. There are forced to wait, at times indefinitely resulting in crowding in bus terminals.
The traffic flow in such locations are often affected when buses tend to stop on the main road to pick up passengers and subsidiary transports like auto rickshaws and taxis also crowd the areas in anticipation of customers / passengers. |
