All motorized road vehicles are tagged with a registration or license number in India. The district-level Regional Transport Office (RTO) of respective states issues the license plate (commonly known as number plates) number — the main authority on road matters. The license plates are placed in the front and back of the vehicle. By law, all plates are required to be in modern Hindu-Arabic numerals with Roman alphabet.
Other guidelines include having the plate lit up at night and the restriction of the fonts that could be used. They should be in proper format and size; since accident victims or the one who caused the accident are to be identified only with the aid of number plates.
Fancy and small font number plates should be avoided. There are at least two reasons for this.
