Bypass traffic But not Safety. Bypass road refers to roads built to connect highways alongside cities and towns. With increase traffic in towns and cities, it has become time consuming and inconvenient for people drivers passing through cities and towns. Therefore, as bigger highways and faster highways are planned new roads are constructed alongside towns and cities to connect highways to avoid driving within cities.
However, many a time the bypass roads become overcrowded with illegal constructions especially for servicing trucks, motorcars and so on. It has become more prone to accidents as vehicles also tend to fly faster on these roads.
In certain situations over a course of time as cities and towns expand, the bypass roads get merged within the city or town. In such instance, new bypass roads emerge yet again. This situation arises often in developing and underdeveloped countries. And a number of accidents are reported in bypass roads.
Service lanes – when concrete flyovers are built within cities to improve flow of traffic and to avoid congestion, a different kind of problem normally emerges. When flyovers are built in crowded roads of cities, in many instances sufficient space is not available for allocating proper width for roads. While the priority is given for main roads and flyovers, the service lanes, which are provided, tend to be narrow. This results in heavy congestion in the service roads leading to, many two-wheeler and three-wheeler accidents. The traffic snarls are more aggravated in peak hours. And the confusion is all the more magnified due to absence of policing in service roads. |
